Adobe announce “No Flash Player Support” for Android 4.0 devices | Tech News

Adobe recently announce something which is important for the web users, especially those who access the sites from the mobile phones; and of course the webmasters.

As per the official post at http://blogs.adobe.com/flashplayer/2012/06/flash-player-and-android-update.html: Adobe officially announce to discontinue support for the Flash Player for the mobile browsers. The PC users will not be affected at all.

Adobe said that the Flash Player browser plugin integrates to the core of the Mobile Browser (or any browser) application tightly in a different way than other mobile apps are integrated. The multimedia control requires a different level of control then needed for other apps. This makes it necessary for the mobile browser (creators) to allow more control to Flash Player plugin in order to provide the best user experience to the visitors. This is what they consider as the certification for the Flash Player by the Mobile Browser (creator). The certified devices typically include the Flash Player pre-loaded at the factory or as part of a system update.

So if the device doesn’t have Flash Player installed should be considered as uncertified (for Flash Player)? Well, after system update also, if there is no Flash Player found then the answer is YES. Though as per the blog post, it is quite possible to download the Flash Player (plugin) on such devices and in most cases it will work pretty well too. However for Android 4.1 devices this will no longer be the case. The blog clearly says that they will not be testing/developing their stuff for Android 4.1 devices anymore. Which clearly means that there will be no certified installation/support for Android 4.1 devices for Flash Player.

From August 15, 2012, the Google Play Store – configuration settings will be updated in order to limit the access of Flash Player for only those who already have it installed the plugin previously. So no devices would be able to fresh install Flash Player from Google Play Store from 15 August onwards. Seems the easiest way (if you want to use Flash Player on Android device) is to get it installed on the certified device before 15th August.

What is your take here? What you think about this announcement?
