The Mentalist | English TV Serial On DVD | Introductory Reviews

If you like thriller fictions, you surely love detective fictions. You then have a special place in your mind/heart for Sherlock Holmes, Miss Marple, Hercule Poirot, Byomkesh Bakshi, Feluda, Sam D’Silva, Karamchand, Remington Steele,… (well, the list is very long 🙂 ) and others. To add to the same genere came the TV serial The Mentalist. Patrick Jane, the fictional lead character plays a consultant to CBI (California Bureau of Investigation). He is not a spy nor a detective. He is good a psychological analysis of people and events. His observation skills are great. He is not a brave fighter or a muscleman but his brain muscles are well toned.

Most of the action scenes are given to the actors playing the CBI team. They consult Patrick when need and Patrick is really willing to help them. Reason? It lies into the history. Before 5 years, Patrick was used his charming skills to work as a psychic and presented himself as someone having paranormal abilities. He was “showing off guy” and his claims and practises helped him to earn his living.

The things fall upside down one day when the things went different way. In an interview he claimed that he was able to trace Serial Killer “Red John” due to his abilities and skills! It was a fake claim but, it angered “Red John” and he brutally murder Patrick’s wife and child in his home and challenge him to catch him.

That day onwards Patrick is assisting CBI as a consultant in order to trace Red John.

Of course, the writing of the TV Show cannot be considered as 100% original. You often find traces to various fictions and/or events happened somewhere. The police procedural stuff is also something which gives you deja-vu feeling. But then also, the TV show is definitely a good choice for those love to watch detective thriller fictions.

Some of the popular characters of the TV series which are seen almost through out the series:

Actor Character
Simon Baker
Patrick Jane
Robin Tunney
Teresa Lisbon
Tim Kang
Kimball Cho
Owain Yeoman
Wayne Rigsby
Amanda Righetti
Grace Van Pelt
Rockmond Dunbar
Dennis Abbott
Emily Swallow
Kim Fischer
Jason Wylie
Josie Loren
Michelle Vega

Of course we should not compare two different TV Serials but the CBI team and the incidents here (at least in season 1) are found less appealing than that of White Collar.

The TV series got popular from its first run in September 23, 2008 and was renewed for 7 seasons, where the last season was ended on February 18, 2015. There were total 151 episodes aired during these period.

Here is the season wise episode list. We will keep reviewing each episode and update it with the link to the same; so don’t forget to bookmark this page 🙂
