Sport competitions are good for the health of the society, be it indoor or outdoor. The joy and recreation are also amongst the needs of the people without a doubt. With the same aim, once upon a time, king KrishnaDevaRaya decide to arrange such competitions in his kingdom.

It is said that, it is not necessary that the good intentions are responded always with the output expected. The citizens have responded heavily to the announcement and it was kind of chaos in the court. Actually, everyone wanted to take part in the competition, just for the sake of it. Now your will to the thing also needs to pass a reality check on your abilities too, right? You must be a fair competent in order to take part in the competition. Otherwise, it is waste or time and resources for many.

King look towards Tenali Rama to get a way to solve the problem and he comes up with a master stroke! We don’t want to reveal his trick and spoil your amazement, but we can say it, it was a success!

But, it was not the end of the problems anyway. A man name Kullan (or Kulhan) came claiming that he is the best chess player and was never beaten by anyone. He openly challenged the king that either someone from his kingdom should play a match with him or he should be declared as a winner and awarded the prize! Kullan and his group is famous for playing shady and wrong tactics during the play and he won almost every game by playing unfair; so no one wants to challenge him! Tenali Rama decides to take the challenge! What happens next is the rest of the episode.

If we see content wise, the episode is good in terms of the message(s) it send. Moral is always the best thing one can possess. Being unfair can lead you to victories which are not as charming as it should be. And you cannot fool yourself afterall. The episode also tries to convey that if something is happened in improper way, than running away from it, is not the solution. Rather one should participate and update the system to be fair. Chaos is really a bad thing. Usually we are not able to distinguish the right and wrong during the chaos. And the decisions taken during such mishap often tend to prove wrong or unjust. And most importantly, wit is the best thing to use in tricky situation.

In terms of acting there are some poor acts are downsides of the episode. Mainly Vijay (as Tenali) and Anang (as king) are most convincing. The actor playing Kullan, the commandant and some other tries to be dramatic and convincing, but they are not convincing enough. Even the dialog delivery is unconvincing at points. The sets are convincing and so does the wardrobe. The lighting and camera work is fairly done. The background music is good and sets the mood properly. The dialogs are small and witty. The DVD quality is good but the original print is not that good so you may find the quality of video a little disappointing. The title track doesn’t go very well.

It is an episode which conveys a message in simple and effective way and thus it is definitely worth watching despite of its downsides.
