Now You See Me is released in first half of year 2013 and having talented actors doing pivotal role. The movie got good response in terms of commercial aspects and a sequel to the same is made. At the same time, the makers shared the fact that they are planning the third part of the movie and the preparation is in initial stage.
There are times when the film gives “deja vu” feelings to the heist movie lovers who have watched many of them.
The story however have mixed the concept of magic with heist to make it interesting. And it works at good length.
The story starts with introducing four different experts who have different abilities (not the super powers). If one is good at hypnotism the other is expert at card tricks and so on. They are earning their living using these abilities. One day they all are separately approached by unknown person to meet at a specific place. During the meeting you got to know that they all knew each other. They were offered a job and on completion they were promised a place in the inner circle of real-magicians. (We are not giving you name/details intentionally).
After one year, they perform a show and for the first time, in that show they robs a bank through a hypnotised viewer!!!
An FBI agent and an Interpol trainee are given the job to lead the investigation in the matter; and catch them. Actually there were no real evidence(s) against them (by the way they are known as – the horsemen – having a woman in the team 🙂 ). The horsemen and officers both knew it and hence the authorities think of a plan. They hire an expert, who is known for exposing “behind the scenes” secret of magic tricks. His motto is – there is nothing like magic – one need to watch the incident carefully to under how the trick(s) are implemented.
Will the team be able to catch the horsemen? Who is behind this (and other two major heists performed in the movie)? And why he/she is doing it?
All these questions are better get answered when you watch the movie.
The story is not 100% original as said earlier. You have seen part of such things earlier also. But they are weaved nicely. Most of the queries are answered for the earlier heist(s) but you will still have some questions unanswered at the end.
The screenplay is tight and there are quite a few moments where story gets dull in terms of pace. The only thing you may complain at a few places is about connecting dots. But it adds to thrills as well. The locations are chosen wisely and in terms of cinematography the film is eye pleasing.
It is said that the main work is to choose right actors for right role(s). And the casting director doesn’t disappoint. Jesse Eisenberg go the maximum footage and he does justice to it. Woody Harrelson is good. Dave Franco and Mélanie Laurent does their roles effectively. They looks like a team, which was the primary requirement of the movie. Their hard work and efforts are visible on screen. Mark Ruffalo is a pleasant surprise. He takes little time to get into character, but the movie progress, he becomes better. And your start liking his acting. He is very good. Morgan Freeman is a good actor and there are no two thoughts in it. He gets the role where he have to wear only a few expressions. His persona however is effective and he is able to create the impact expected from his character. We must say that none of the other actors have underperformed. Overall it is good package in terms of acting.
The background music is good and it adds the desire effect to the movie throughout. Special effects are there and they adds to the positives of the story. however the overdose of it is wisely avoided by the makers.
The sets are fantastic, especially where the magic shows are arranged. They look splendid. The shower of currency is effectively filmed. There are some chases in the movie and they are filmed good. There is one major chase which is also a high point of the movie. The action director does his job brilliantly. The action scenes are effective.
In short, the movie is not a masterpiece, but definitely a good watch for once. Especially thriller lovers will enjoy it.
