Don 2 | Bollywood Hindi Movie | Review

Money and success are the ultimate truths and goals for any business and no two thoughts on the same. Meaning of success may be different for different people. In order to cash to money, in the film industry also there is a trend to follow the proven path. Sequels and prequels are part of the trend. The benefit is the people are already aware with what is it? Half of the marketing is already done. The other side is you need to really come up with something innovative and yet connectable to the original franchisee. You need to provide it better than its previous part. This year will be seeing a number of sequels coming from Bollywood and Hollywood both. One such release was Don 2 – the sequel of Don (directed by the same director Farhan Akhtar and same lead pair ShahRukh and Priyanka along with Om Puri, Boman Irani and others). Which itself was a remake of the Amitabh Bachchan starrer Don, A legendary film by Chandra Barot.

Movie : Don 2
Director : Farhan Akhtar
Music : Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy
Starring : Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta, Kunal Kapoor, Boman Irani,Om Puri (and Hrithik Roshan in a Cameo) and others…

The story moves ahead from where it stopped in a quick way. Don is now a well established figure in the Underworld. And when there are friends there are foes too. In the world of crime it is even stronger truth. Don was spreading his wings and naturally this international criminal was hated by some drug lords and other criminals from Europe. They have their own differences with each others but when it comes to Don, they all agree that he should be executed.

They tried assassinating Don, but fail. Don found that the time is changing and he have to do something different to save himself and keep his position in the world of crime strong. He lets himself captured by Interpol officers Malik (Om Puri) and Roma (Priyanka Chopra). It was the last day of Malik before the retirement and he was leaving for the day when Don surrendered himself. It was the precious most moment for Mr. Malik and Roma both. Captured Don was sent to the jail where Roma had a conversation with him.

We see that Vardhan (Boman Irani) is there in the same jail, who was desperately seeking to get revenge with Don. Don is attacked by Vardhan’s men and survived. Don explains Vardhan his plan to get Vardhan released from the jail and it is the reason he came there. Vardhan was ready help Don and finally both they escapes the jail with the help of Ayesh (Lara Dutta) and others as per Don’s plan. Sure, Don is not a helpful soul and he is not doing a charity or humanity work by getting Vardhan released, he have his plans. Finally the plans are revealed by Don that he is interested in capturing the Die (Plates) to print currency notes from the Bank of Zurich. They few to Zurich and visits the locker which could exclusively be accessed by Vardhan, they got something from the same which was needed to execute the plan.

It was a tape holding footage of conversation between Diwan and then the Vice President of Euro printing bank. It was the evidence which confirms that the Vice President have got the most eligible candidate, who was the best man to take over the post of vice president at that time (and the only competitor to him), assassinated. If the tape go public it ruin the life of the VP and others. Don and his team was interested in getting the inside information about the vault of the bank and security of the same by blackmailing VP via this tape?

If they got succeed in blackmailing VP, is it possible to breach the security of the Bank? Will anyone else has to be part of Don’s team in order to perform the technical stuff. Is Vardhan trustable? Will Malik and Roma got succeed in stopping Don from executing the plan, re-capture him? Well, there are a lot of questions which are answered well in the movie.

No two thoughts about the technicality and visuals of the film. The action scenes are superb too. Story is almost tight and twists are there. Direction is first rate. Shahrukh might have played his stunts and so but he seems lost. He doesn’t look like Don at all. He might still be in the roles of My Name is Khan and Ra.one. He also shows glimpses of his work in Darr and Anjaam. He no doubt is a good actor but in this movie he is below his level. Also now his age is also showing its effects. Lara and Priyanka’s roles could have been tailored well. The film is having splendid canvas but sometimes you feel that it lack soul. ShahRukh and Priyanka’s emotional scenes are half-backed and you never feel them. The background music is good. There is not much scope of other songs in the story. Action scenes are good and the film has international quality too. Om Puri has nothing to do. Boman Irani plays his part. Kunal Kapoor have a small yet important role and he does his bit. Background score of the movie is up to the mark but songs could be better. Overall once watchable.
