Interview with Sunil Bhatia | Author Of My Feathered Friends & The Book of Poems : Part 1

Hi Friends,

Allow me to introduce Sunil Bhatia. Recently we got a chance to read his book My Feathered Friends & The Book of Poems : Part 1. The book follows the Panchtantra path to convey messages though the fictional characters. Interestingly apart the narrator, who is a human being, all the characters are “the birds“.

Impressed by his writing style and the way he has penned down the wisdom tales in a fictional story which is a psychological analysis of human behavior cum satire; we’ve decided to have an interview session with him. Fortunately the things worked out as expected and from our team, I got a chance to have this interaction with him.

​Thanks for the same.

It is a kind of cliché question, obviously, you are feeling joyous, accomplished and happy, but, each success comes as a stepping stone right? Do you feel inching closer towards your goal?

​To be honest, there is no goal, only the journey. Yes, one does however feel more happy and satisfied once more readers respond and spread the word. Would be happiest once the book is read by adults, teens and kids alike.

Please tell us something about you, your profession and your passions.

I am a full time Hotelier by Profession in the Sales & Marketing Department. Am also a part time Singer, Songwriter and Composer.​

What draws your interest towards writing books?

​Find it as mode for self expression.​

What inspired you to write – My Feathered Friends & The Book of Poems : Part 1?

​The very fact that we all are caught up in the chores of daily life and are moving away from our selves.​

What are the major challenges you faced when writing this book?

​Getting through the publishing process, mainly because of my full time profession taking most of the time.​

Can you tell which part(s) / scene(s) in the book you enjoyed writing the most / like the most in this book?

​All the part are close to my heart, however remember the Bat and Vulture once in a while. Even some of the poems.

Please share a few lines of your favorite poem from this book.


After having lived my life/I park my ferry now//Ravaged by many a storm/I make it out somehow.​

The book cover plays an important role in book selling, were you involved in book cover designing process? How much?

​Yes, entirely.​

We all get inspired by the people living around us and incidents happening around us. Writers take a lot of inspiration from these realities and then mix it with fantasies. While writing mythology there is not much scope, however a lot of imagination has to be weaved in the tale, Can you share any of real incidents which helped you in writing this book?

​The birds nest, pigeons flying in the room and taking the pigeon to the animal hospital happened for real. Also the outing with friends.

Why should one read, My Feathered Friends & The Book of Poems : Part 1, according to you?

​Its relate able to ones daily life, entertaining and would leave one to introspect and do things to change ones life for the better.

Every book affects its author in some way. How do you think writing these books affected you.

​Its changed me for the better, giving sensitivity to the world around.

Who are your favourite authors whom you love to read?

​Am more of an impulsive writer, penning down what comes to the heart.​

What is your favorite genre when it comes to reading?

Fantasy and Scifi​

Who is your favorite author?

​Do not have a particular author as such. Spend more time watching TV/Web Series​

Which are the book(s) you are reading currently?

​Currently watching TV/Web Series​ like Continuum, Battlestar Gallactica and Agents of Shield.

What is your opinion about EBook readers and their impact on the generation overall?

​We are living in the era of e books. Reading was more prevalent earlier, however the internet and video content have come to the forefront, giving youngsters more avenues to spend their time.

What are your hobbies apart from writing?

​Am a singer, songwriter and composer. ​Have given two songs in Bollywood movies and keep releasing original songs over various platforms. Have also been pursuing film making for a while, the reason why I’m watching more Films and TV/Web series now.

Can you tell us about what are you planning to write next?

​Have some ideas in mind, otherwise part 2 of My Feathered Friends and the Book of Poems​

It is tough to find a publisher for a débutante author. Can you share your experiences of finding a publisher and ultimately get your first book published?

​Started searching and writing to Publishing houses. Was pleasantly surprised when Partridge Publishing responded.

While the marketing of a book is changed a lot in last few years. Nowadays you can see trailers of a few books are also launched/released. What are your thoughts on it? Do you think that having the book trailer available on Internet, can do good to the book?

​Yes, it would make a difference.​

Did you grow up hearing moral and ethical stories from parents/grandparents? If yes, how it affected your persona?

​We read more of these stories in School text books. Hope someday that this Book is also part of School Curriculums.

It seems that you are a nature lover, what in your opinion we should do to preserve it?

By ​just being more sensitive to the animal and plant kingdom around and realise that we are part of it.​

Do you have pets?

​Have fish and a turtle. Did have some baby rabbits also, however returned them to the shop owner as there was no one to take care of them at home. ​

Please share anything special you want to convey from your side the readers of this interview.

​Live life at your own pace, don’t get caught too much in the rate race. Find your own peace accepting yourself which would lead to happiness.​
