Recently we came to know about a book named A Chest’s Tale (The Mystery Crackers Book 1) by young author Jinal Doshi. It is a short EBook. Fortunately, from our team, I got a chance to read it, and here are my views and reviews for the same. Let me tell you that though the book is provided by the author, the review is completely unbiased, as always.

Being an entry point to the book, a cover page plays a very important role in making the first impression of the same. As the book falls in “children special” category; the illustrious cover page completely suits it. In this illustration three kids looking inside an opened chest reflects the content and the title of the book. And the dark red and yellow color in the illustration gives an impression of the figures are there in the dim light, making it interesting.
So, in terms of cover page, the book deserves distinction!

Book Plot:
It is a short E-Book which explores the story through 7 chapters. They are

The book introduces us to the twins Nish (short for Nishant) and Prash (short for Prashant?). They are mischievous young kids who love to explore the things, especially when forbidden :). Their father is a scientist and holds a private research laboratory in their home. They live in a small town named Jhiljila.
Hriday (known as Hri) is the best friend of Nish and Prash. Actually, their fathers are also best friends, so their connection is obvious. In comparatively uneventful town of Jhiljila, the law and order is managed by Inspector Gulkand!
One day when the kids were wandering they found a riddle challenging them!
When the sky is clicking photographs,
Where beauty dances happily,
The Unseen will be clearly seen,
And you will meet the Truth…!
Hriday’s father get his hands on an ancient chest which actually came to his possession in unbelievable circumstances. When he tried to open it, he cannot! And, thus he went to his friend’s house to get his help! A series of incident happened this point forward which are not only interesting but dangerous as well.
The families are caught in the mysterious circumstances and they even fear for lives of their family members! What is the threat and how the sequence of actions is triggered? Will they be able to get out of the danger without a loss? Well, the rest of the story explores it. Over the course we meet characters like a gossiping lady, Anjali, Sanjana, and many more.
The Cover Design by Gaurav Shrivastav and Prasad Patnaik from (holy Cow Entertainment) is interesting. In kids special tales, inline illustration can play interesting role. In this book we see a few illustrations exploring referred scene(s). These illustrations are done by Natasha Kotian and Tejal Shah, and though they are not exceptional, they are first rate for sure. An interesting book trailer is also available.
Writing a kids special story is not an easy task, especially when it is a mystery. At one end you need to add thrills, include a crime scene, uncovering of a dangerous plot and other similar stuff; on the other you need to remember the target readers. Nothing should be so much polished. There must be some amateurish stuff. There has to be some fun moments and contemporariness as well. Being a fellow from the world of literature, Jinal walks on this rope nicely.
She herself is fond of Sherlock Holmes stories, Gulliver’s Travels and other such books.
The writing is crisp and the pace remain moderate throughout the book. The fun moments are there, but they do not make you feel reading something out of context. It is a short read and not only young adults but also the mature readers can enjoy it equally well. I am avoiding any excerpts from the book as interesting lines in the book plays an important role in the story, and including them here will lead to some spoilers.
This book is the first in the series “The Mystery Crackers”. Jinal is currently working on the second book and we are looking forward to get and read it when it will be released. This book reminded us for Famous Five and Secret Seven book series. We hope that the author keeps adding books in this series more frequently.
The price plays an important factor for the readers. So, it is quite possible that readers may find it little pricey. Especially when the full length books (kindle edition) are available for Rs. 9 and Rs. 29 segments, this short EBook is priced at Rs. 49 (Kindle EBook). There is no paperback version of the book is available.
Summary:
On the whole, it is a short nice book written for children which I am sure they will enjoy. I find it little pricey. When these days comparatively a very few writers pen down quality books for children, this book is not to be missed.
