We’ve already read his book Murderous Greed earlier, so we knew that we can expect a good thriller from him.
The cover page is good but it can be a lot better. Considering that the author himself has designed it and the canvas of the book is small so he may not hire a professional for the same, it is falling in place.
This Is Here In For You
Book Plot:
Let us take a bird’s eye view of the story.
Naren, an inspector in the crime branch of Chennai is a human being like all of us. While briefing the press about a case in his hands recently, he got fainted. The pressure of the work, the unlimited working hours and having no time to take care of himself shown its results. He was immediately taken to the hospital and was asked to take complete rest.
But, rest is something unthinkable for the genuine police officers.
While got back to his consciousness he was informed that a lady was waiting to meet him since long. And, despite the advice from the doctor and his fellows, there remains no option for him but talk to her. She was a poor lady whose son Kannan was convicted of a murder and she believed that he is innocent. Inspector Charlie, the investigator of the case, has closed the case in competitive time and was being praised by the media. The circumstantial evidences against Kannan are enough for the lawyer to prove his guilt. And, the judge, in whose court the case was presented, has a reputation to move the things in fast track.
So, the only chance remain with the lady is to find the proofs which can prove his son innocent, and she was told that only Naren can do that.
Will Naren accept the case? Is Kannan innocent? What is his relationship with Phillips, the murder victim? Will Charlie, the investigating officer of the case consider any intervention by another inspector an intrusion in his work? Will the police commissioner approve it? All these questions are better to get answered by reading this book.
The story is of around 5000 words and spread over 25 pages and available as an EBook to read on Kindle device or application. We bought it for free from Amazon India and thus it is definitely the best value for money. Let us discuss various attributes of the same so you can decide Whether it gives the best value for the time you spend to read it.
The story remains gripping throughout and the incidents took place in Avada area of Chennai. Arun likes to set up his stories in this area, and it shows his love for his city.
One of the good attributes of this story is its representation of the police officers as normal human beings. Yes, despite it is expected from them, they are not superhumans. They also have ups and downs in their lives. They can also fell ill and face the health (and other) problems like all of us.
The characters in the book grow gradually and eventually they become what they are intended to be, by the author. A short story can have no loose points (specifically when it fell in the thriller zoner) and no scene which can be write off. At the same time, the incidents should be linked properly to reach the conclusion. The author does it successfully.
Such stories required to have sarcastic Humor and it is present here. Let me give you an example:
“You should get married,” The doctor expressed as he read through the report.
“Is marriage the medicine for low BP?”
Naren exclaimed as he adjusted himself on the bed.
“No! That will increase your BP. Low BP would tend to get normal.” The doctor smiled.
And yes, you will enjoy some one line descriptions which are full of literary attributes:
He was six feet tall and the hospital bed did not allow him to stretch his legs.
And, there are some catching one liners like:
Sometimes human eyes miss the most important clue that’s right in front of them.
Being an avid reader and movie lover, Arun is gradually mastering the storytelling, especially in police procedural / crime thriller genre. There remains a mystery regarding health issues for the protagonist which could have been better explored. We can however, give the author benefit of his possible planning to write a story around it which might eventually link to this one.
Summary:
If you are looking for a quick read and if crime thrillers are your cup of tea, this short EBook is definitely worth going for. It will not require more than half an hour to complete it.
