By reading the second book, of the series, we felt the the first book – The Immortals of Meluha was better than it. So is the third installment better than first two? Well, it is longer book than both the previous installments and it covers the Hindu mythology and especially philosophy of life and words of wisdom in the form of conversation (mainly the protagonist Shiva is involved in most of them) marvelously. Some of the in-depth descriptions of the places may not be that effective. But if you are not the scholar the Purana and Vedas and the Indian culture, all these is needed to get an Idea of the which may otherwise seem obvious to be known. Also like the previous installment, this book have used modern terminology at places and it seems you are reading a modern story set in ancient times.

The briefing of the story (we will brief it only, and avoid spoilers, for the interest of the readers) is:
So Shiva got to know the secret of the Nagas and one of his biggest loss, death of his beloved friend Brihaspati was actually untrue. So he is again found him. But what is the reason Bruhaspati have declared himself dead? (Yes, he himself did it). Definitely there is something more important than his own life is on stake OR it is his life which is in danger, which made him to fake his death? Also, the troop that attacked Shiva and his followers at Panchavati was sent by someone very powerful and dangerous. How can one think to go against the great Neelkanth and even try to kill him?

Shiva’s quest was to find what the Evil is? And then how to get rid of the same. The philosophies explained are having several ideologies. Eg. Lord Brahma is the great scientist who creates, well, the place of existence and hence almost everything. The stuff is in perfect balance at the very moment. Lord Vishnu – in various forms is responsible to get the cycle going on.During the process the things keep loosing balance. But there definitely comes a time when everything is so dis balanced that it have to be destroyed and new stuff has to come to existence. (Be it the home we are living at, or even our human body, follows the same cycle.) There comes the part of Mahadev, he have to destroy the stuff. It is not the joyous duty, but nonetheless it is the duty, so no choice.

These philosophies, along with reference are weaved in the content very intelligently. Also the roles of Vasudevas explained pretty well. The head of them – Gopal also enters the canvas of the novel. The reason behind Nagas’ deformity is known, same way the reason behind the plague in Branga, the disappearing of Saraswati (river) gradually are also came to know. The reason and way why and how Bhrigu can read a person’s thoughts by seeing in his eyes, will liked by the user. Also, Shiva’s leadership qualities are justified. The reason given for, he is better leader than Bhrigu is convincing too.

There are so many stuffs in the book that you really like. But it has its own flows as well. Sometimes it seems too modern. Shiva seats on the chair, the ships have rivets, … May be the author could have used some other words here and then justify them in glossary. Even the story have some flows. But, you will surely like to go with it.

Our verdict: you should read it.
