Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi was the one of the very old SitComs aired on Indian Television. It was the time when DoorDarshan (aka DD) was the only channel aired in India. But it was still considered as the golden time Indian Television had seen, based on the quality TV serials aired during those time. Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi was aired in 1984, so we can see it is one of the serial which initiated SitComs on Indian TV screen.
It was written by famous Comedy writer Sharad Joshi and directed by various directors including Kundan Shah, (who have directed some really nice movies as well) and Manjul Sinha. The title track of the TV serial was sung by famous and popular legend singer Kishor Kumar (often written as Kishore Kumar). The seasoned actors like Satish Shah, Swaroop Sampat, Rakesh Bedi, Tiku Talsania and of course, late Shafi Inamdar were the main cast members. The TV serial was aired on Fridays on the DoorDarshan. It was allotted the prime time (09:00PM to 09:30PM). So if to skip advertisement times, each episode was around 22 to 27 minutes.
The serial gain so much popularity that even the movies are affected with the say. (As movies are released on Fridays and usually 9:O0PM is considered as one of the prime slots for them as well.)
The great thing is, this popular SitCom is now available on DVD for Home Entertainment. The season one is available as a set of 4 DVDs. Even season 2 is available as a set of 4 DVDs.
