Once upon a time, Byomkesh and Ajit was invited by Mr. Ushanath Sen, a retired judge to his Calcutta (now Kolkata) residence to solve a mystery, There were around 9 people living there, including 6 males and 3 females. Ushanath left his job since more than a decade now and living a peaceful life with his wife Damyanti and nephew Vijay.
Ushanath was diagnosed with high blood pressure and he was advised to not to do the work which involve too much of mental stress. So he took early retirement and since then he is living in a colony which is little isolated from the main city. He runs a flower shop in the city, which was mainly taken care by Vijay these days. The other people living in the colony include the following
Panu Gopal is the caretaker of the cattle. He is partially diff and have trouble in speaking also.
Mukul lives with her father Prof. Nepal Gupta in the same colony. Nepal Gupta used to teach chemistry in a college. He had his own Chemical lab also. Once something went wrong there and there was an explosion in the lab. The authorities doubted that Prof. might be making bombs there in the lab, and based on the doubt, he was suspended from the college.
Brajadas also takes care of the cattle, he is a firm believer of Vaishnava Sampradaya. Before entering into living the devoted life he used to be a clerk in the sessions court. Once he took some bribe to displace the evidence in the court. In fact Ushanath himself have given him the jail sentence. After coming back from the jail, he is a changed man now.
Dr. Bhujangdhar Das is fond of playing Sitar.
Laxmi is good at tailoring and takes care of everyone’s need in that area.
Since around last six months, the strange things started happening with Ushanath. Parts of motor car is thrown at his home periodically. Was someone whom he convicted in his professional days trying to take revenge with him? And why the parts of a motor car? Who is doing it and why? This is what Byomkesh and Ajit needs to solve.
During the course of events, there comes a time when Ushanath withdraws his request to investigate the stuff and sends Byomkesh back! Ushanath was then met with his death in the night! Was he met with natural death or murdered? Before Byomkesh and Ajit can solve the mystery there happens another death! Panu Gopal was killed by someone!

This Is Here In For You
Episode #13 – Chiriya Ghar – Part 1
Episode #14 – Chiriya Ghar – Part 2
The story itself is very interesting and have all the materials of being a good thriller. So the script writer’s job got easier. The story setup however needs to be setup in the way that it look appealing to the audience through out India (because the original story was written in Bengali and thus setup in native Bengali environment). The makeover to the story is appealing for sure.
Basu Chatterji is in full form (as always). Being a director he is the captain of the ship and he know how to sail smoothly and swiftly. He does it pretty nicely. If you watch the episodes carefully, there are so many details you will find amazing. For example the introductory scene where Byomkesh and Ajit approaches to Ushanath’s home, the paint on the outside wall is not smooth. When Prof. Gupta got to know that Byomkesh also love to play chess, how he insist him to play a game with him, is performed nicely. There is one more scene where without any dialog, there are so many expressions pass through in a glance. See when Byomkesh left with Ushanath and Ajit after meeting with Vijay for the first time, the way Byomkesh looks towards Vijay, is simply a million dollar expression we must say!
Rajit Kapur and K. K. Raina are excellent performers and they complement each other in each scene they are together. It would be tough to choose the better one amongst them both. They act though their persona, so their dialog delivery gets compliment from their facial expression to their gestures and postures and everything. After watching this TV Serial you may not expect anyone else playing these two iconic roles.
The sets and locales are chosen intelligently. The simple wardrobe is very effective. You can explore the next door people in the TV Serial, which is tough to find these days. There are no larger than the life sets or any special effects in the episode, but it is all weaved together so brilliantly, you don’t miss anything of them either.
The good thing is that the episodes are available for watching for FREE on Official YouTube channel of Doordarshan.
We however expect that it should be available as a set of DVD, especially for collectors of good TV Shows.
Summary:
Overall a nice episode with many characters and effective performances. Definitely worth to go for.
