The makers think that it is a safe bet to remake a successful movie. It doesn’t matter that it was a success in a specific time frame or in a specific territory. The success of the original version confirms one thing that the content and treatment of the work is liked by the audience for sure.

However remake cannot guarantee the success of the new venture. If the treatment is good then you may expect the success or otherwise it may bomb on the box office. In addition to proven positive attributes like the likeability of the content, the remake have to work against the burden of audience’s expectations from the new version. It is not the thing that the remakes are bad. Mother India was a remake of Mehboob Khan’s own movie Aurat. Don and Don II were commercial success (though never engaging like the original Don); ditto for Agneepath. A moderately successful Chashme Baddoor is also an example of successful remake. On the other hand RamGopal Verma Ki Aag is the example of how not to create a remake (it was the remake of one of the most talked films in all aspects of Bollywood Sholay).
Anyway, let me repeat again, if the a remake is done with proper treatment and adds something to the original one in positive aspects, people may like it; or otherwise it may not achieve the desired result at box-office.
Rangrezz – directed by very talented Priyadarshan (who gave fantastic movies like Hera-Pheri, Gardish and others) is a remake of popular South Indian movie which was remade in 5 other languages! Does it contain the element of interest? Well, frankly the movie has flows and it may not appeal you, especially in the second half.
The writing is good for the first half, but over the course, the script writer lose his grip from the content in second half and towards the end he has nothing much in his control. Director followed the content, and despite of having some good sequence and scene, the movie doesn’t remain in his direction towards finale. Santosh Sivan and Priyadarshan joined hand after so many years again for this movie. There are few scenes which are a marvel in terms of cinematography but there is not much to say otherwise. I mean, the expectations are higher than whatever is delivered.
The kidnapping of a girl from the temple is the highest point in the story in terms of acting, thrill, cinematography, background music and all. The song Shambhoo, Shiv Shiv Shambhoo playing in the background is thrilling and effective. Background music of the entire movie is good overall.
Pankaj Tripathi is first rate and performs well as cool minded and determined politician. Lushin Dubey is loud. Amitosh Nagpal and Priya Anand are convincing. Vijay Verma can’t do more as his role has flows. He tries well though. Raghav Verma is convincing. Rajpal Yadav is there for small amount of time, which he plays effortlessly. Jackky plays the lead role but he fails create the impact. He looks innocent, fights and runs well, even dances well; but that is it. He is unable to deliver the sparkling performance in emotional scenes!
Apart from the Shiv Shambhoo song, the holi song is quite good in terms of picturisation. The love story of the lead pair doesn’t get much scope and hence is not appealing. There are some good moments between the lead pair though, but we definitely want to see more there. Some question remains unanswered when the movie ends though. For example how the trio gets out of Jail at the end. Because, when pushed by such political pressure they cannot be released in few years. Also once the politician’s son and daughter wed each other, their families could have accepted them and in such case, the couple should have worked towards getting this trio released. Also the story of none of the friends got enough footage.
The story is about the protagonist and his friends. His love for life, his girlfriend and friends. He always stands for his friends when they need him. One of his childhood friend, son of a politically well known figure came to him and tried commit suicide! The reason is he is in love with a girl of a politician who is rival of his mother. The girl too loves him. The friends decided to help him and the protagonist’s girlfriend and sister supported them. They finally decided to abduct the girl from the tight security and get her married to his friend.
From that point onwards their life goes upside down and they met with some strange stuffs. During their efforts to help the love-couple, they all need to face a personal loss! But, was that all worth???
The movie have its own flows and it prevent it from being a good movie. The first half is having nice moments but the second half is not appealing.
