Ek Tha Tiger | Bollywood Spy Thriller | Views And Reviews

Sometimes a flick is clicked without any major reason, and sometimes a good (or even the best) attempt goes into the vein. Though one cannot deny that the love of public is most important factor in the success of the movie. It is the golden time of Salman Khan running (again) and he is proved to be a man with Midas touch (as of now) again. Remember there was a time when people consider him to be finished, but he is back again and a lot of his movies entering into Rs. 100 Crore club. However we may not talk about the movie quality here, but ultimately the commercial success matters, and that is where he rocks. The move Ek Tha Tiger, is probaly remarkable in a different sense also. Sometimes the couple hit in the real life may achieve success on the box office(Dharmendra-Hema Malini), sometimes it may not (Kareena-Saif, Kareena-Shahid – [exception Jab We Met]). And Salman-Katrina haven’t give any major hit on their own, togather, so the movie can be considered as their first major joint successful venture.

It is a pure commercial movie made by YashRaj Films. And it is no path breaking movie. Also do not try apply much logic or senses for everything being happened here. Also as it is a spy thriller, you should not compare it with Agent Vinod (which is better than this movie in some parts and this movie is better in the other parts).

If to tell in a single line: Ek Tha Tiger is the love story of a spy (remember the tag line of Sunny Deol – Preity Zinta – Priyanka Chopra – starrer movie – The Hero?)

Now the directors and writers started following the James Bond movie pattern in the spy movies. Usually, Bond films have an action-chase sequence before starting the title as a brief introduction to the spy. Same way the protagonist is introduced with a sequence involving him in a mission. The action sequence is really nice technically, but sometimes you expect more speedy movements of the body in the same. It is started being felt that Salman is getting aged. Anyway, a spy, known by the nick name given to him by the RAW (the intelligence agency of India) – Tiger successfully completes a mission and come back to his home. Here he lives as a normal fellow. We see that he lives with minimum requirements and he is mostly on the mission, which he loves to be at. And he have a majority of his salary saved in the Bank, as it is unused.

A new mission is approached him, which leads him to his destiny. It is to keep watch on a profession at London. Who seem to have developed a technology of war which the other countries, especially ISI (Pakistan Intelligence Agency) is also interested in getting hold of. He flies to London where he is supported by the RAW contact stationed there. The professor doesn’t seem to be co-operative. Though, Tiger, as a fellow named Manish Chandra succeed charming the part time care taker of the professor, Zoya.

Tiger, pretending to be in her love, try to get the compact disc from the professor (And make sure to get the information about the research work of the professor); however actually falls in for her. This is unsurfed segment of his life. He started thinking by heart instead of by the brain. On the dooms day he found that his lady love, Zoya, is actually an ISI agent!! And, his world falls upside down!

Now what? He have to chose from the love of his lady and his motherland. The choice is tough, but we know, what to expect from a patriot in such situation. And it goes that way. But wait, this is just the mid of the story. The chase of politics, hate, love etc. starts from this point and leads to the climax. Actually, you may think that the movie loses its way from here and goes on the wrong track (which is having some nice action sequence). But I like to see a couple having both husband and wife are competitive to each other in all the aspects. The lady is not simply a shy, home bound fellow but fight with the enemies and took over him, just like her husband. A couple of twists making you feel that it is difficult to decide who cheats whom.

Overall it is a movie, with more of lows than high points in terms of the story. But the charisma of the lead pair already turned it into a major box office success. Music is good and songs are ear pleasing. Action sequence are competent. Salman looks good, and does what his fans expect him to do. Same for Katrina. Ranbir Shorey plays his part well like Girish Karnad. Though why Ranbir needs the kind of beard he have, when he is stationed at London, is a mystery. A box office hit, entertainer to watch for time pass.
