When you are trying to make a quality Bollywood movie, a large sum of money is at stake. Probably that is why most of the makers are making it by keeping box office success in mind. There is nothing wrong about it, of course. Because, when you run a business (or make a commercial product) you think of making profit from the same. Actually that is the main (if not sole) factor behind making it.

However, when you are taking about a Book or a TV Serial or a Movie, it is a creative media and hence, there are many makers who keep art at the central point of it. Some makers go adventures and in addition to show creativity, provide entertainment they also try to explore and elaborate
some social problem or realistic incident on the celluloid.

Of course, all of them don’t succeed at both Box Office and and giving justice to their work; but then also they deserve the appreciation.

We got a chance to watch recently released movie Pink which is doing well commercially and is getting praise from critics also. Here are our personal, unbiased views and reviews for the same.

Book Plot:

The story is quite bold in content. It talks about how some (we are not going into how many percentage) men thinks about women based on their dressing and life style. How some people cannot understand the meaning of consent, precisely the word NO. And specifically when it is given by a woman.

Minal, Falak and Andrea are three working girls who are living as paying guests. They are having their own careers and earning. They often come late at night, due to their work. They are also modern in terms of dressing. While some of the people in the society are getting pleasure in overlooking them they are also ready to talk dirty about them.

There happens an incident at a farm house, after a late night party, which changed the world upside down for them. Something fishy happened at the farm house which resulted into Minal hitting with a glass bottle to Rajveer Singh. Rajveer have influential political connections in terms of close relatives.

While Minal have her version of the incident as, Rajveer tried to molest her and she clearly said him NO for many times and ultimately to save herself she have to hit him. Rajveer’s friends however makes up the story as she have tried to blackmail them to get money from them with wrong accusation!

The girls decided to go to the police. But the things came to them in exactly opposite manner then what they have expected. The situation become tougher for them at work place and society overall from this point forward. There was no one ready to help them.

Deepak Sehgal, a veteran lawyer decided to help the girl and stand with them, against all the odds. What happens the point forward is better to explore on screen.

Views And Reviews:

The movie is definitely a very brave attempt by the makers and they should be appreciate for it. The movie is not directly connected with shameful Nirbhaya incident, but it indirectly refers to it in the movie. The movie have many hard hitting dialogs which sometimes are hard to digest but refers to reality. The makers are not shying away when talking about something which exists in the society but we keep running from it.

The straight forward, no-nonsense storyline is supported by some fantastic performances. Be it Amitabh Bachchan as Deepak or Taapsee Pannu as Minal, they are superb. Same we can say for Kirti as Falak and Andrea as Andrea. We however have expected better performance (especially in terms of dialog delivery) from Piyush Mishra. Angad and the actors playing his friend have comparatively less time on screen, they however all makes their presence felt. Given the opportunity we can see good actors in them. Actually almost everyone in the movie performs well.

The story is supported by some good dialogs and we must give credit to the writers for the same. The detailing is remarkable. A fellow at Quora.com sharply noticed the tattoo of flying birds on the body of Minal and almost all her dresses reveal it. Being a metaphor of caught in the prison of circumstances, waiting to be free. The movie talks about the incident through out the movie, but never show those awkward scenes. The incident is revealed only during the end-titles of the movie. Despite of having hard hitting dialogs and situations, showing modern girls and all, the makers make sure to not to have any “skin show” stuff.

The movie have no scope for traditional songs but the background music is really good and it adds to the mood of the film. Kari Kari song will remain with you when you leave the theatre.

The locations for the movie are quite real and so does the sets. The cameraman does his job nicely. Little better editing could have made the movie more impactful.

It is revealed recently that the original end of the movie was thought as – the girls are found guilty for the mishap – to make it quite realistic, but then changed it to what it is currently; by keeping audience’s reaction in mind. We wish that the situation in the society changed, that such filmy ends become a reality.

Summary:

The movie has potentials and it is worth watching for sure. It is not for just entertainment. If you love strong movies which explore the realistic ugly side of the society and bluntly talk about it; you should not miss it.
