Ek Anch Ki Kasar – is basically a saying or proverb in Hindi. It means something like “the last shot”. It refers to something which is almost over, almost about to destroy or finished, and requires “the last nail in the coffin”.

The story explore the life of a person who is a well known figure in the society. He is considered as a respectable gentleman because of his “modern” thoughts. He doesn’t believe in some orthodox stuffs which is harmful to the society. And, it includes the problem of “dowry”. He declared that he will not accept any “dowry” in his sons marriage, which is approaching soon. The decision (actually declaration) makes him the “talk of the down”. People visited him to greet him. They paid respect to him and declare him the idol!

But, did he genuinely didn’t want to take any dowry?!

No, he is living a twin-personality life. He was very keen to have some handsome amount of money and other wealthy stuff as part of “dowry” from the bride’s side. But, he wanted to get some publicity and considered to be a genuine and modern fellow who fights against some social problems. And, he was quite succeed in impressing the people with his self-publicizing (kind of) actions.

The good thing about the story is its straight forward approach. It exposes the characters on the right time and explores their attributes in quite linear manner. It doesn’t try to dramatize the story by adding not-needed layer of suspense etc. Munshiji’s almost all stories are somehow focused on social issues, and it needs to have courage to write against the wind. He did that and of course appreciated for the same. His stories are added with literary qualities and they were popular too. It is a rare kind of combination of attributes.

This episode of the TV serial does justice to the story by treating it in a linear manner. It is having some fantastic performances, especially by Mr. Pandey in the lead role. The marriage and its related ceremonies are filmed in quite realistic way. Actually, the real locations and authentic sets, genuine dialogs and script, and straight-to-the-point-talk is the USP of the serial for sure.

The background music plays a vital role in setting the mood of the scene and it is quite good in this episode. Even the folk songs played (in marriage scene) are from the real life. The conversations between various characters at various places are written well. Though there are a few character actors who play friends and admirers of the lead character are under performers. The young boy, who plays the key character, disappoints with his dialog delivery and below average level acting.

Overall good at content, focused on the social issue, this episode is a genuine watch. But, the audience of current time, may be unable to relate themselves with the episode.

We cannot close our eyes towards some social problems which do exist (or were there in the near history). Getting glimpses of the real history and understand it, is one of the best step you can take, to make the society a better place. There are still some strange systems and problems exist in the society otherwiseTV Serials like Satyamev Jayate (or popularity of Balika Vadhu) or books like Bubble Wrap are not to be created/written in the current time. Let us all do our bits to resolve these problems, it is the only solution.
