A very few movies are made which are focused on Parsi family. The movie “Shirin Farhad Ki toh Nikal Padi” is a one such film.
The movie is not having any convention hero-herion or story. Both the protagonists are more than 40 years old bachelors. It is quite common in Parsis to found old and eligible bachelors. The circumstances of both the characters made them to be unmarried for so long.

Bela Sehgal who have edited several great movies of her brother Sanjal Leela Bhansali, is an intelligent director who knows her job and want to give something different to the audience. She was able to convince Farah khan who is a choreographer, director, producer herself to be an actor and play the unconventional heroin. Of course, her limitations are displayed in various scenes but no one claimed that she is a great actor, she plays her part with her efforts. Boman Irani is complete natural and the role suits him. The story of the movie have some genuine laughter, some splendid songs, some nice acting performances, a good and unconventional story, and emotional track in the story too. However it have its lows too. The story and especially climax have some flows and it could have been a better movie.
The protagonist Farhad is a salesman in a ladies lingerie shop who is overloved by his mother. Her mother is desperate for him to get married as the age of Farhad is going out of bounds. It is not that Farhad haven’t tried, but who want to get married with a man working as a salesman in an undergarment shop? Also the girl then should be of good family and nature and qualities too… making it even tougher.
His mother and grandmother have their own genuine concerns about the next phase of Farhad’s life.
One day Farhad meets with Shirin (we later come to know that she is unmarried as well) in the undergarments shop, where she came to purchase some stuff. They again meet in a kind of matrimonial meet. We got to know that Shirin serves there.
One of the domestic problem Farhad’s family pass through is about a water tank which was made by his late father, and is considered as illegal by the society. In order to resolve the issue (and fight) with the secretary, Farhad goes to the office with the determination to teach a lesson to the person who ordered the demolition.
He found that the one responsible for the havoc is no one else but Shirin. He so, doesn’t expose anything there and they become good friends. The joy of acceptance and being in good relation shows on the face of Farhad. His family is happy by seeing ultimately him getting involved with someone. Farhad however reveals the identity of Shirin to his grand mother, but as her mother was angry with the person who was responsible for the tank issue, he doesn’t tell anything to her.
They arrange a get-togather with Shirin at Farhad’s home and ultimately Farhad’s mom found her true identity, but Shirin however doesn’t know that she is responsible for something ill happened to Farhad’s family.
Farhad’s mom gets angry and after Shirin left, she declares that the marriage could not happen!!!
Twist in the tale! What will happen now is the rest of the story. Frankly speaking the story could have had more fun and cheers. But it is good of course. It is tough to make such movie and Bela did a genuine effort. Though we feel that something is missing (especially in the second half of the movie). A good representation of Parsi culture. However the fight scenes at several community get togather might have been a little over. But the people blaming each other at occasions and declaring someone a wrong person without knowing much about the true incident; are portrayed nicely.
Overall a non-traditional Bollywood timepass movie (with emotional quotient) where you should have your kids away while you are watching the same.
