Allow me to introduce Maria Vermisoglou, an aspiring young author from Greece. Recently we got a chance to read her book, The Cursed Girl, and we liked it. You can read our unbiased reviews for the same at:

Impressed by her writing style and the way she has penned down a long fantasy tale in a way that everyone from young adults to elders can enjoy it, we’ve decided to have an interview session with her. Fortunately the things worked out as expected and from our team, I got a chance to have this interaction with her.

I believe the first time is always hard but now that the first book is out, more books will come and someday success will be achieved.

I love books and trips. I also like to make handcrafted items like keychains and jewelry. I love handcrafted items because each one is unique even if they look alike.

It’s a long story but I’ll try to keep it short. I always loved reading books. When I finish a book I love, I make up a story. I take a part of a story and made up my own. I never wrote down these stories, it was all in my head. A long time ago, I finished The City of Heavenly Fire and I was thinking, what if Clary was a witch? That’s how Eva was born. That’s how everything started. The story wouldn’t leave my head so I decided to write it down. I did and The Cursed Girl was born.

The main inspiration for The Cursed Girl was mainly the book series The Mortal Instruments and the tv series The Witches of East End. I was also inspired by places.

I am more of a impulsive writer. If I have an idea, I start to write. I may have some notes but that’s as far as my writing plan goes. Everything stays in my head until written down.

I faced a lot of challenges since I had never written a book. I am Greek writing a book in English so I had to figure out how everything was done: the writing, editing and publishing. It was hard but I managed in the end.

Hmm… that’s a tough question. I liked social events like balls or scenes when magic was involved. One of my favorite scenes was the waterfall scene.

I wasn’t involved much but I had the idea. My illustrator, Jessica is amazing because I had a hard time choosing a design and I changed my mind often. In the end, the cover exceeded my expectations.

I was inspired by books rather than incidents. The book series The Mortal Instruments was one of the main inspirations as well as the tv series The Witches of East End. Some places described in the book were also real. _

Is that a trick question? I’ll try to be as objective as I can. One should read The Cursed Girl because it has messages about love, friendship and companionship. It also has an important story with magical elements making it a unique story.

The Cursed Girl affected me because the whole experience was like magic. It was like the book was writing itself and my only use was to write it. Sometimes, I felt like a reader because I laughed and cried in some parts of the story. Nonetheless, I would never trade my story with anyone else’s.

I like reading fantasy and young adult. Especially books that describe places that don’t exist. It makes the reader’s fantasy create its own world without limits. I also like reading stories that take place in real places.

I love a lot of authors so I am just going to mention three or I am going to write another book. J.K. Rowling because she taught me to love books, Cassandra Clare because she inspired me to write my own book and Nicolas Barreau because his stories are fresh and vivid.

I hate ebooks. I always have and always will. Yes, they are convenient and I read them but I don’t like them. I am a paperback addict. I love the touch and feel of the books. I love the smell. Paperbacks carry memories with them. You open a book and see that stain of coffee and you remember what happened then. With ebooks, there’s no turning pages, no spilling drinks, no memories, nothing. Also, they have limited energy. Paperbacks can be read all day long. I don’t think ebooks will ever replace paperback books. They are here to stay forever.

I like making handcrafted items such as jewelry and keychains and edit pictures. I also love to read books.

I am currently working on the next volume of The Cursed Girl and I have finished a short story called The Magic Library.

The Cursed Girl is a self-published work. When I began searching for a publisher I discovered I couldn’t send to a publisher because I needed an agent. I didn’t want to go down that road so that only left self-publishing. Now, I know that there are small publishers that can take your manuscript without an agent but you need luck. Self-publishing was a difficult process for me because I didn’t know how things were in the US. I found a good illustrator and a good editor who made the book magical. Overly, I am satisfied with the whole experience and the outcome.

Yes, the marketing has changed over the years but the trick is how you present it and if you target the right audience. A book trailer is important if it’s made well. People tend to react better to book trailers nowadays.

I grew up hearing about values, kindness and stories with an important message. I love meanings and hidden messages inside stories and that’s what I put in my story. I like to know there’s a meaning in everything: books, life, adventure. It’s a way to believe that there’s a hidden message in everything and I like that.

I like nature and I think we should try to preserve it instead of destroying it. We can all recycle and not throw everything on garbage bins. Things can be used again. If everyone, do little things then Earth might be saved and be green again.

I want to say thank you for the wonderful reviews I have gotten for The Cursed Girl and also I want to say I’m sorry for the ending but that’s not the ending, just the beginning.
