We love superheroes…

Many of us want to do (or want to be able do) what super hero does, right? There is nothing wrong in that. And it is not a fantasy to have only during the childhood. Actually, as we are growing up, we are introduced deeply to the realities of the world and life. The more we know about it, more we found that it is not the perfect place, as we have imagined during our childhood. We often see that wrongdoers are getting more success while the honest and genuine are met with setback. And then we want the society to be just. The ideal society should be fair and just. And when we see it is not. This lead us to like the superheroes.

While admiring superheroes and enjoying superhero fictions; we need to remember that we can’t detach ourselves from the ground reality. We have to be the superheroes and do what we can, at the best, to make the society a better place.

There are so many things we can learn, so many quotes we can get, from these fictions which can change the path of our lives, if we implement them effectively.

When watched the first episode of US TV Series Arrow, we like the way it have explored the popular superhero character – Green Arrow – so far. Intrigued by the experience, we have decided to go ahead and explore the second episode of the same and share our personal and unbiased views with our readers.

As Oliver is now back, he have two challenges. Get adjusted into the family life and do what he need to, in order to clean the city (from crime).

As the life moves ahead he found it is tough to balance both the stuffs. So he decides to focus more on his goal of cleaning up the city. Admiring his father and considering him as a real hero, it is a tribute he consider he need to dedicate to his father, who died to save him.

While we will try to avoid spoilers as much as possible, some of them are inevitable :).

Oliver was declared dead legally, as he was not heard about since 5 years. Now when he is back, he first need get his official status changed to alive, legally. You can consider these incidents a satirical punch on the system. However, its us, who developed the system. And, implementation of the system is assumed to make the society more organized. The way, it went smoothly for Oliver, it is a relief, and it should be happened that way only. So, he is alive now, officially!

While returning back from the court, Oliver bumps into Laurel. They have dated each other and then Oliver cheated her with her sister Sara. Sara was with Oliver on the Yatch and she was also met with her death in the mishap. Thus Lauren have more than one reasons to get upset with Oliver and she shows it without any hesitation.

Lauren is a lawyer and she believes in fighting for the justice for those who needs it, but sometimes don’t have plentiful resources to get it. She was fighting a case for a young girl whose family was assassinated and Martin Somers is responsible for that. Martin is a millionaire with good connections, so it is very tough for the victim to get any justice. And this makes Lauren to fight for her desperately.

The things didn’t went well with Martin, of course. And he order to get rid of Lauren! So what will happen to Laurel now? When and how she was attacked? Will she be survived? How her father, detective Quentin Lance will react? Will Martin confess his crimes? Will he be punished and how?

All these questions are answered in the episode and you need to explore it by watching.

We heard the saying that the content is the king. And it is very true for any media, be it a TV Serial, a movie, a magazine, a book, a newspaper or something similar.

The plot is the real hero of the episode. From Oliver’s coming back from dead to meeting her with Laurel, Laurel’s association with the case involving Martin, presence of Martin’s name in the diary of Robert Queen, the changing relations between Oliver and his family and friends,… almost all incidents are lined up nicely. There is no disconnecting point.

Of course, there are scenes where you think, was it necessary. For example, this scene.

Also Diggle‘s mention of his war days, doesn’t impact always.

The exploration of the weak family bond between the Queen family members shows us the irony that despite of having resources to get material happiness, we human beings cannot survive without emotional support. The good thing is, at point, the family members try patching up with each other.

Detective Lance’s disapproval for Oliver is quite visible in the episode. Here is one such dialog:

Quentin Lance: It seems that whenever you’re around one of my daughters, people die.

The last scene of the episode is emotional, where Oliver is telling his views for his behavior.

All that time plotting my return at the island, I didn’t realize how hard it would be to reconnect with Mom, Thea… Laurel… and I didn’t… I didn’t know how painful it would be to keep my secret. You asked me to save the city. To right your wrongs. I will. I swear. But to do that, I can’t be the Oliver that everyone wants me to be, which means sometimes, to honor your wishes… I need to dishonor your memory. I’m sorry…

The nice content cannot do marvel, until it is explored effectively. The director is in complete control here. While most of the action scenes took dominance in the episode, there are emotional segments which are not to be missed. It is good to see facial expressions of Susanna Thompson as she adds life to the scenes using it. And we must say Colin Salmon (playing Walter Steele) has the persona required for his role. Willa Holland tries to do justice to her character (Thea). Colin Donnell doesn’t get much scope in this episode, he though makes his charming presence felt.

Katie Cassidy (playing Laurel Lance) got meaty scenes in this episode and she is convincing. Getting better as an actress, she is in good form here. Paul Blackthorne plays Detective Lance effectively. He is not having the physical appearance of a detective, He acts well and justifies his character.

David Ramsey is good as John Diggle. He got more footage in this episode. His persona adds to his portrayal of Diggle. While he need keep his expressions straights (as the bodyguard) we see an underrated mischievousness there, and we like it.

There comes the hero, Stephen Amell, playing the protagonist. He have the toned body with the flexibility required for his character. Some of the scenes are able to convince the viewers that he is having the strength and attributes to play the character of Arrow (aka Green Arrow) convincingly. He is getting better in emotional scenes too.

The casting director did a fantastic job here by choosing right actors for right roles. Everyone is convincing and seems to be the right choice.

You may not like the white hairs of female assassin.

The action scenes of the episode requires a specific mention. They are the highlight of the episode and they can compete with any international movie for sure. The background music is also effective.

Summary:

Overall a nice episode with more ups then downs. The DVD Quality is quite good too. The thriller lovers who like to explore superhero stuffs will definitely find it entertaining and worth to go for.
