Reviews for Rastey Ka Kanta Episode From Hindi TV Serial Byomkesh Bakshi

Rastey Ka Kanta is one of the most talked works featuring Byomkesh and Ajit resolving a comparatively unsolvable case. All the murders in the story are done using a gramophone pin. Interestingly the gramophone pin is fired from comparatively very unusual device. There are people who talked, analysed and checked the possibilities of such weapon.

It is also considered as the first story written about Byomkesh, however his character was formally introduced in Satyanveshi.

Anyway, the story is considered as one of the most riveting works of Sharadindu Bandopadhyay. Those who are Sherlock fans, can draw parallel between one such weapon used by one of the killers in Sherlock tales as well.

We are not telling about the weapon very properly, just to keep the viewer’s interest intact.

One morning, Byomkesh and Ajit was sharing their time on morning tea. Byomkesh referred some of the recent murders by using a gramophone pin. Ajit was also worried with such cases. Their conversation goes interesting when Byomkesh referring a quite different kind of advertising appeared in the newspaper. The advertise appears to be on every Friday since last three months. It was offering people that “if you want to get rid of the the throne in your way…”. The advertise then asks that whoever is interested can come to a specific place at a specific time and he/she would be contacted.

Byomkesh decided to find out who is behind this advertisement and have it any connection with the recent murders.

At the same time, Byomkesh and Ajit are contacted by an elderly fellow named Asutosh Babu. He introduce himself as a moderately successful businessman who is unmarried. He have one nephew who is not an owner of a good character and is currently in jail. A few days ago when Asutosh Babu was passing through the way, he was shocked when felt something pushing him from the front in his chest. He was however saved as there was a watch in his upper left breast pocket, which prevented the gramophone pin fired on him from injuring him fatally.

He was now worried much about his life as someone is trying to kill him. The only possible explanation is someone is interested in the wealth he have earned. When asked about the successor in his will, Asutosh Babu asked Byomkesh to not to dig in that area, as he want to keep it secret.

Byomkesh advises him some precautions and then decided to follow him. He got to know the following that:

Ashutosh Babu have relations with a young lady who used to be singing at public places and a daughter of a former prostitute. Byomkesh also got to know that Vilas Babu (the lawyer of Ashutosh Babu and the only other fellow who knows about Asutosh Babu’s will) was also in touch with the same lady!

To move forward in their quest to find the truth about the advertisement, Byomkesh gets Ajit ready in a disguise and be available at the place the advertisement referred on the time mentioned. However Ajit was in disguise and Byomkesh was keeping a watch on him, Ajit’ body language was not quite natural. So, will they be able to find out the truth? Is there any link between the murders and the advertisement? Does it have anything to the Asutosh Babu case?

Well, it is better to explore it while watching the episode.

In terms of acting both Rajit Kapoor and K. K. Raina are simply excellent. Though the episode is definitely more focused on the character of Byomkesh, Rajit Kapoor got more exposure, but K. K. Raina is quite competent and looks the character. Not only their looks, but their body language reflects the characters accurately.

The real power of the episode in its performances, be it of actors / director / writer or background artists. Basu Chatterji executes it in simplistic style but he explores the time and locations it is focused on, very perfectly. The sets are really authentic and so does the wardrobe. The modernisation of the tale is done very properly.

Also some minor changes are made in the story (for example, the story refers police following and capture them when running away with fortune of Asutosh babu; is not mentioned in the episode).

Today when we are seeing various TV Serials with larger than life sets, sometimes over-acting, special effects then despite of seeing them in HD Quality, we still miss such simple and effective execution of the content.

The dialogs are very effective and the writing is remains true to the original story.

A not to miss TV Serial episode regardless of your love towards detective fictions. Brilliant performances, effective writing and simple execution are the key aspects of the episode. We suggest not to miss it.
