Addiction is very dangerous thing. Almost everyone knows it, however still people are falling for addictions which are not limited to smoking, drinking and drugs. The plot:

Byomkesh was trying to solve a mystery since long and he was unable to get to the possible facts. He was very much busy with it and he left almost everything else apart from solving the case. Ajit Banerji insists him to take a break and have a walk in garden to get fresh. Initially Byomkesh was not keen about it, but he agrees ultimately to go out.

While walking in the garden, getting some fresh air and changed environment, Byomkesh actually felt better. He thanks Ajit for taking him out. So always remember,

Passion is great, but taking periodic breaks from routine is also equally important. It supercharges your energy so you can go back and do your work with even better concentration.

They met here Dr. Manoj, a friend of Ajit. During the conversation he hesitantly expose some weird facts about one of his patients, Nand Dulal Babu.

Nand Dulal Babu is a wealthy fellow living in Calcutta (now Kolkata). His family takes his good care, but he believes that people are interested in his health mainly. Though, his problem was quite different. He was a kind of Casanova during his early days due to his economic liberties. Now also he wants to enjoy the life that way, but the body is not that much responsive. He said to have a lady friend living in the same city and is in touch even these days.

Nand Dulal Babu’s life is now just stayed limited to his bedroom. He cannot go anywhere due to physical limitations. He have a strange addiction. Probably he could have tried it in his early days and then it was a habit for him. He loves to take sips (or small shots) of juice of a specific Tarantula spider! The juice is very dangerous though.

His family put a firm watch on him so by no means he can get it. He was under observation 24/7. No outsider can meet him directly. Even the letters coming to him are opened and checked before delivered to him. He however somehow manages to get his drug. Though, no one have seemed him taking it, it is though quite evident in his behaviour once he took it.

Dr. Mohan was keen to save Nand Dulal Babu from this drug and hence despite of getting scold for his genuine efforts, he was determined to do it. He tried almost everything he can, with the help of Nand Dulal Babu’s family to find and stop the way Nand Dulal get the drug. He is unsuccessful so far.

So now he urges Byomkesh to take the case, if he can. As Byomkesh was quite busy those days in a case, he cannot take it. He however didn’t want to hurt Manoj, so asked that he will take the case, and is sending Ajit to do primary investigation (and mostly observation) till he get free.

So from where Nand Dulal was getting the “Makdi Ka Ras”? Was anyone from his family is a culprit? Will Ajit be able to resolve the case? With the help of Byomkesh? Answers to all these questions lies in the rest of the episode.

Views

The screenplay is based on a quite interesting story, so it already have the amazement for the viewer. The drug mentioned here is a quite less heard about, making it more interesting. The writing is very effective. Actually for any media, to be effective, the content must have the potential, and it is evident here.

Added with superb acting by Rajit and K K Raina, the episode becomes more effective. They look like the real characters. Their dialog deliveries and body language is worth taking a note about. Both of them are equally competent.

The wardrobe is simple and effective. It reflects the time of the original story authentically. The background music is really well prepared. It makes each segment more impactful without a doubt. The sets are realist. The middle class homes and real city streets and parks are rare to be seen on TV these days, which is a delight to see in this episode.

The acting of the supportive cast could have been better at many places. Though, there are more positive factors which can make you ignore such small low points.

Summary

Overall a nice story which is effectively converted into a screenplay and brilliantly executed by the maker. The actors does their part with honesty and the other attributes are adding to the positives. If you love detective fictions, this classic is not to be missed.
