Voldemort: Origins of the Heir – An unofficial fanfilm | Movie Reviews

Harry Potter and his family, friends and even enemies are known to a majority of book readers and movie lovers around the globe. Though, all of them are fictional characters, the love they received is something that even real people crave to get.

Probably, the author J. K. Rowling herself hadn’t imagined this level of popularity for the fictional magical world she has created. She wrote 7 books in the series and eventually published a few short books as supplementaries to the main story. The books got so much popular that they are adapted as a series of 8 movies. All of them are box office hit and popular as well. The popularity of the same and people’s wish to know more about their beloved characters lead to a new film series. Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them started the new franchisee with a bang and the next film in the series is expected in coming days.

Even after all these films, avid readers or Harry Potter enthusiasts believe that a lot of key points missed in the film. And they are true. The canvas of the Harry Potter Books is so wise that it is not possible to explore everything in a few movies. So, a few such enthusiasts decided to explore the events mentioned in the book regarding Tom Marvolo Riddle which were not explored in the films but are important to the story.

Gianmaria Pezzato and Stefano Prestia, two Harry Potter enthusiasts decided to bring those moments on the screen and to do the same they came up with a fan made film Voldemort: Origins of the Heir. Gianmaria Pezzato directed the film and Stefano Prestia served as an executive producer to the same. Of course, it is an unofficial film in the series.

Book Plot:

I will try to avoid the spoilers, but some of them may be there.

Grisha McLaggen (we later came to know that she is the heir of Godric Gryffindor) is on her quest to find the diary that belongs to Tom Marvolo Riddle. On her quest, she encountered with General Makarov and captured by him. General, bound by the rules of the ministry of magic, interrogates her with truth serum and tried know what she is upto and most importantly why?

Grisha then tells him the events which leads her to find Tom Riddle’s personal diary. She firmly believed that there are some clues about Tom Riddle’s becoming of Lord Voldemort in the diary. She wanted to pursue the diary at the earliest so she can stop Tom from doing wrong things. During her confession (well, she is under strict dosage of truth serum) we got to know a lot the heirs of each house of Hogwarts.

They were all friends and they inherited a greater responsibility. The responsibility to let the evil away and keep the world good and safe for all by using magic to make it better place to live. Who were those heirs? How she knows so many facts about them? How she came to know about Tom’s diary and why she wanted to stop Tom? Will the general believe her and give her the diary? Does the general even possess Tom’s diary?

Well, those who are die hard fans of Harry Potter books might have answers to many of (if not all) these questions, but those who’ve simply followed the movies only, will find it interesting to explore them by watching it.

Views and Reviews:

The first and foremost point to mention despite it is repeated is, it is free to watch legally and is available on the public domain of YouTube.

The script writer tried covering all important incident which are related to Tom Riddle’s initial journey of becoming Voldemort. The title of the movie itself is the indicator that it is not about the life of Tom Riddle, so don’t watch it with a vision to explore Tom’s life. It talks about the days when Tom was in the final stage of his studies, followed by his days of doing a job and then his disappearance for years till he is back as Voldemort. The stuff which is already explored in the Harry Potter movies is intelligently ignored here, so almost everything you watch on the screen is fresh.

All of the actors tried really well to slip into their respective characters. While I’ve expected a little more convincing performance from Maddalena Orcali, she doesn’t disappoint either. Alessio Dalla Costa is really effective. Aurora Moroni, Andrea Deanisi, Davide Ellena, Andrea Baglio, Andrea Bonfanti and Gelsomina Bassetti are trying their best. Some of the scenes in the movie are simply superb.

I must mention the wardrobe and makeup of the principal cast. While the masked soldiers are not looking that good, all the heirs of the founders of Hogwarts are given a proper makeup. For example see the face of Rovena’s heir and try to link it with the dialog suggesting that “the raven needs to control the serpent” and you will be able to notice the genius of the person behind the idea.

The audio dubbing and editing is really good. Despite we know that it is not a mainstream movie and it cannot have the special effects which match the quality of the same in the Harry Potter movies. Neither in budget nor in execution. The comparison however is unavoidable. Especially for Harry Potter movie fans. And you will be little disappointed here. I must say that some of scenes are good in terms of special effects as well.

The dialogs are nice and are backed with fantastic background music.

Summary:

Overall a must watch film for all Harry Potter fans. It has it’s lows of course, but it is good in many aspects and it tries exploring some unexplored stuff about Lord Voldemort, the main antagonist of Harry Potter series, making it a reason to watch.
